Fertilization

Lawn fertilization.

Your lawn probably needs fertilizer if:

  • Your lawn is light green with yellowed patches all over its surface.
  • Your lawn is growing very slowly.
  • Your lawn has a low density.
  • Lawn fertilization is included in our annual lawn care plan.

Fertilization provides your lawn with the nutrients that it lacks and that the soil cannot provide. Fertilization ensures the optimal and long-lasting development of the lawn.

100% natural fertilization: Vision Gazon uses natural fertilizers that are free of chemicals and pesticides, safe for humans and animals, approved by Health Canada and Quebec municipal standards.

The application of fertilizers allows the grass to grow more freely, more quickly, and to occupy more space with its roots. The result is a dense, healthy lawn that naturally reduces the space available for weeds and is more resistant to insect infestation.

Why use 100% natural fertilization?

  • Prevents problems related to over-fertilization, such as thatch buildup, because natural fertilizers are released slowly by the action of soil micro-organisms and therefore last longer than chemical fertilizers
  • Prevents pollution of streams, as natural fertilizers are not washed away by rainwater
  • Allows to preserve the quality of the soil
  • Free of chemicals and pesticides, safe for humans and animals

We have developed 3 fertilizer formulas optimized for each season: a spring formula, a summer formula and a fall formula.

Following the optimal dosage, our specialist will apply fertilizer evenly to the entire surface of your lawn. He will also add Crystal Green, the first fertilizer with continuous phosphorus release. Crystal Green works gradually to nourish your lawn all summer long.

Core soil aeration

Core soil aeration treatment.

Your lawn probably needs aeration if:

  • Your soil drains poorly.
  • Your lawn does not resist heat well (it withers and turns yellow as soon as the temperature rises).
  • Your soil is compacted.
  • To determine if your soil is too compact, push a pencil 10 to 15 cm deep into your wet lawn. If this is difficult, your lawn needs to be aerated.
  • Vision Gazon recommends aerating your lawn once a year.

Aeration is a technique that reduces soil compaction and helps thatch decompose.

When the soil becomes too compact, it is more difficult for roots to grow and the lack of space slows down the grass's growth.

Aeration promotes rapid infiltration of water into the soil and distribution of nutrients and fertilizers. It helps roots grow deeper. In short, your lawn breathes better!

Aeration key benefits:

  • Reduction of soil compaction
  • Increase of thatch decomposition
  • Deep rooting of the lawn
  • Rapid infiltration of water into the soil
  • Better distribution of nutrients and fertilizers in the soil
  • Improved drainage in clay soils
  • Cooling of the soil during hot periods (better resistance to drought)

Our specialist will first conduct an analysis of your soil to determine its compaction level. Then, our specialist will drill fine holes all over your lawn with an aerator device that extracts small cores of soil.

Vision Gazon recommends aerating your lawn once a year.

.

Lime treatment

Lime lawn treatment.

Your soil probably needs lime if:

  • Moss and algae are growing on your lawn.
  • Weeds are taking over your lawn.
  • Insects are reproducing rapidly in your lawn.
  • Fertilizer application does not work.
  • Lime application is included in our annual lawn care plan.

The application of lime (liming) is a technique that is used to restore the soil's pH.

Lime is a white powdery mineral composed of calcium. Its basic pH reduces the acidity level of the soil and thus promotes a better rooting of the grass.

By reducing the acidity level of the soil, liming helps with rooting, fertilizer efficiency, development of soil microorganisms and reduces weed growth.

When the soil becomes too acidic or too alkaline, the grass cannot absorb all the nutrients it needs. Inadequate pH also impairs soil structural stability, promotes fungal diseases and threatens the survival of many beneficial organisms.

Generally, lawns grow best in relatively neutral soil (pH between 6.5 and 7).

Liming key benefits:

  • Reduction of the soil acidity level (pH)
  • Better rooting of grass strands
  • Increase of fertilizers' efficiency
  • Augmentation of beneficial soil microorganisms
  • Decrease of weeds' development

Our specialist will first conduct an analysis of your soil to determine its acidity level (pH) and assess its calcium needs.

Then, our specialist will rebalance your soil pH by spreading lime following the optimal dosage.

.

Mycorrhizae treatment

Mycorrhizae lawn treatment.

Your lawn probably needs mycorrhizae if:

  • Your soil compacts and/or erodes easily.
  • Your lawn is susceptible to diseases and discolouration.
  • Your lawn does not tolerate periods of drought.
  • Mycorrhizae application is included in our annual lawn care plan.

The application of mycorrhizae is an ecological technique that improves drought tolerance and optimizes the absorption of fertilizers.

Mycorrhizae are fungi that live in symbiosis with the roots of the grass and are in natural harmony with the lawn's ecosystem.

Mycorrhizae stimulate leaf growth, especially in poor soils, because the fungus retains moisture longer and thus allows for better absorption of water and nutrients by the grass roots.

Mycorrhizae key benefits:

  • Better establishment and survival of the grass during seeding (better root development)
  • Improvement of drought tolerance, allowing for reduced watering
  • Optimization of fertilizer use
  • Reduction of disease development
  • Maintenance of soil quality and nutrient cycling
  • Control of soil erosion
  • Better resistance to soil compaction

Our specialist will first conduct an analysis of your soil to determine its mycorrhizae needs.

Then, our specialist will apply mycorrhizae to the entire surface of your lawn by making sure to follow the optimal dosage.

Weed control

Weeds lawn treatment.

Is your yard full of weeds?

  • Your lawn is covered with weeds and is not to your liking.
  • You don't have enough time to control and eliminate weeds.
  • Your lawn cannot develop properly because of weeds that consume resources and occupy space.
  • Weed control is included in our annual lawn care plan.

Weeds are invasive wild plants that are usually very hardy and spread quickly.

Dandelion, plantain, thistle, ivy, quackgrass and oxalis are growing on your property? There are even species you don't recognize? Call on the experts at Vision Gazon for a diagnosis and effective weed control solutions.

The resistance and speed at which weeds spread allows them to compete directly with your lawn by depriving it of water, nutrients and light. They also grow faster and can introduce diseases or attract parasites.

It is important to take action quickly and control weeds development before they can multiply and spread across your property.

Our specialist will first perform an analysis of your yard to identify the weeds growing there. Afterwards, he will be able to propose solutions adapted to your situation.

Preventive weed check is performed during each visit to act quickly and prevent spreading.

.

Crabgrass preventive treatment

Crabgrass preventive treatment.

Is your yard full of crabgrass?

  • Your lawn cannot develop properly because of crabgrass that consumes resources and occupies space.
  • Crabgrass is recognizable by:
    • Green or green-blue colour similar to grass.
    • Long, flat, tapering leaves (6-20 cm long and 1 cm wide).
    • Stems surrounded by small claw-like growths, called auricles, located at the base of the leaves.
    • White, elongated and branched underground rhizomes similar to roots.
  • Our preventive treatment attacks crabgrass seeds and sprouts to prevent their development.

Crabgrass is one of the most difficult weeds to control due to its tenacity and rapid spread.

Indeed, it can reproduce through the many seeds it produces, which can disperse over great distances. However, its highly invasive character comes from its ability to multiply vegetatively thanks to its long underground rhizomes that can produce new shoots.

Crabgrass is a dreaded invasive weed that can harm the health of your lawn. If not controlled in time, crabgrass spreads very quickly and its rhizomes can invade your entire lawn, resulting in the smothering of the lawn.

It is therefore important to carry out the preventive treatment for crabgrass before it appears in order to avoid an invasion.

Our specialist will first perform an analysis of your yard to identify the weeds growing there. Afterwards, he will be able to propose solutions adapted to your situation.

At Vision Gazon, we offer an effective treatment designed specifically for the preventive control of crabgrass. Our treatment attacks crabgrass seeds and sprouts to prevent their development. Crabgrass emerges in summer during warmer periods (June and July), which is why we apply the preventive treatment in the spring to prevent it from growing and reproducing. Our specialized technicians will apply the treatment, ensuring that all of your land is covered. Your lawn will thus be able to benefit from better protection against crabgrass.

White grub treatment

White grub lawn treatment.

Your lawn probably has white grubs if:

  • There are areas of yellowed grass with irregular shapes and variable sizes.
  • There are yellowish-brown areas in the spring that do not turn green in the summer.
  • Your lawn seems to attract birds and even skunks (which are fond of grubs) more than neighbouring properties.
  • It has a thatch that feels "spongy". A very wet lawn favours the multiplication of the larvae.
  • To determine if your lawn is infested with white grubs, cut three sides of a 30cm long section of grass with a knife. Lift it up by rolling it backwards. If you count more than 5 to 10 larvae, you have an infestation.
  • White grub checks are included in our annual lawn care plan.

White grubs are June beetles and beetles larvae that live in grassy soils and consume the roots.

Appearance: White grubs have a whitish, c-shaped and soft body with a tan or brown head. When first hatched they can be as small as 5 mm long, but at maturity they can reach a length of 2 to 4 cm.

Try pulling on the grass where there is damage. If it pulls away like a patch, white grubs are probably to blame.

It is important to act quickly when the first signs of an infestation are detected because white grubs reproduce rapidly, especially during hot weather. Also, white grubs are weaker and easily eliminated when at the larvae stage, rather than when they are mature.

By eating the roots of the grass, white grubs prevent the grass from growing normally and can destroy your entire lawn if not treated.

Our specialist will first perform an analysis of your lawn to determine the severity of the infestation. Afterwards, he will be able to propose solutions adapted to your situation.

Vision Gazon uses a nematode biological control treatment to eliminate white grubs naturally. Nematodes are an efficient solution to control white grub populations while being totally safe for humans, pets and your lawn's ecosystem.

Preventive white grub check is performed during spring and fall to act quickly and prevent further spread.

Ant treatment

Ant Lawn Treatment.

Your property and home are infested with ants?

  • Your lawn is covered with ant nests and is not to your liking.
  • You're tired of ants entering your house and preventing you from enjoying your lawn.
  • You don't have enough time to control and eliminate ants and their nests.
  • Your lawn can't grow properly because of ants attacking its roots.

Ants are fast reproducing insects that build their nests in the ground by destroying grass roots.

Not only do ants build nests that can make yards less aesthetic and inviting, they can also enter homes and inflict damages to wood structure.

.

Ants can chew the roots of the grass to build underground tunnels, which prevents the grass from absorbing water and the lawn from drying out. Because the lawn is weakened, weeds can proliferate more easily.

In addition, ants breed aphids and mealy bugs to obtain the honeydew they produce. These pests can cause significant damage to your lawn.

Be aware that ants (e.g. carpenter ants) can enter the house and eat the wood, damaging the structure. In the event of a confirmed infestation and when mass-produced insecticides no longer work, it's time to call in the pest control professionals.

Our specialist will first perform an analysis of your property to identify the type of ants and assess the severity of the infestation. Afterwards, he will be able to provide a solution against ants that will be customized to your needs and situation.

Vision Gazon now has the expertise to manage this insect problem with an effective treatment against ants that is also safe for your family and pets. We also manage spiders.

Chinch bug treatment

Chinch bug lawn treatment.

Your lawn probably has chinch bugs if:

  • Your lawn has signs of drought (yellowed, dried or dead patches of grass) despite watering.
  • Your lawn has a fairly thick, long or dense thatch.
  • Your lawn does not tolerate periods of drought.
  • Diagnostic: You can take an empty can with both sides removed and stick it in the lawn, then fill it with water while gently shaking the lawn. The bugs will float on top of the water. If you find more than 15 bugs per square foot, you have an infestation. You can use a magnifying glass since bedbugs are very small.
  • Chinch bug check is included in our annual lawn care plan.

Chinch bugs are insects that feed on the sap of grass blades which are used in the composition of lawns.

Appearance: Chinch bugs are very small. The immature bugs are brown while the adults have white wings.

Signs of chinch bugs: The damage caused by chinch bugs appears from late June to August. Affected lawn sections are mainly in sunny areas and have irregularly shaped yellow patches that become larger during the summer. Chinch bug damages are most visible and develop most rapidly during hot, dry weather. Since sunny areas are usually the most affected, chinch bug damages can be mistaken for symptoms of drought.

Sometimes during hot summer weather, you may see adult insects on solid surfaces (such as asphalt) near damaged lawn areas.

It is important to act quickly when the first signs of an infestation are detected because white grubs reproduce rapidly, especially during hot weather.

Chinch bugs feed on the sap of grass blades, and in doing so, inject a substance into the stem to coagulate the water, killing the grass blade.

The lawn will turn brown and die if left unchecked. A severe chinch bug infestation can destroy an entire lawn in one summer.

.

Our specialist will first perform an analysis of your lawn to determine the severity of the infestation. Afterwards, he will be able to help you find a solution adapted to your needs and situation.

Preventive chinch bug check is performed during spring and fall to act quickly and prevent further spread.

Vision Gazon has developed a solid experience, proven over the years, to manage chinch bug infestations in an efficient and safe manner.
